Maria’s interest in the cabaret style began when she attended
several cabaret performances in both Philadelphia and New
Hope. She began educating herself in this unique art form and
then studied song interpretation at the Arden Theatre in
Philadelphia with director Terry Nolan and the art of cabaret
with Todd Waddington.

“In cabaret, I’m not limited to any particular style.  I can
include show tunes, jazz tunes, and classically-oriented songs.
What makes it cabaret is the intimate setting and the
performer’s ability to break down the 4th wall, to relate to an
audience through the performer’s own interpretation of each
song.  Actually, my favorite part of cabaret is that I can play
the Ingénue and the Diva all in the same evening with no
casting director in sight telling me which part I have to play!”
