American Traditions Vocal Competition

2018

The American Traditions Vocal Competition stands alone as a unique vocal competition for highly skilled and diverse singing performers. With its rich history and vibrant cultural life, Savannah – known to all as Georgia’s “Hostess City” – is the perfect home for this exciting musical celebration.

Maria Damore is a professional vocalist from Berks County, PA, noted for her strong, clear vocals, and versatility in covering musical styles such as pop, rock, jazz, standards, Broadway show music, classical, and Greek folk music. Maria performs as a soloist with recorded background music, with live piano/guitar accompaniment, or with a host of fine musicians in a variety of configurations: Maria Damore Pop/Rock Duo or Trio, Maria Damore Band (5-6 piece Pop/Rock Band), Maria Damore & the Jazzy Gents (jazz ensemble), Stavros & Maria Greek Folk Music Duo.

Maria Damore is also a private voice teacher and Associate Faculty for The LoVetri Institute for Somatic ™, in residence each summer at Baldwin Wallace University Community Arts School. The 2022 recipient of the Frank Scott award for contributions to Berks County’s Jazz Heritage, Maria has been an educator for Olivet Boys & Girls Club, adjudicator for vocal competitions, and clinician for GetJazzED Berks-Vocal Day. She has been featured in Classical Singer magazine, discussing her work in the original children’s jazz-opera, The Bear Prince, and her Greek folk music duo “Stavros & Maria.” Because of her versatility in crosses genres, Maria was selected to compete as a quarterfinalist in the 2018 American Traditions Vocal Competition in Savannah, Georgia.

Maria has performed in various shows, ensembles, and as a soloist for churches, orchestras, and social groups for many years. Favorite roles include Mother/Witch in the opera Hansel and Gretel, Mercedes in Carmen, Eva Peron in Evita, Lily in The Secret Garden, Grizabella in Cats, Aldonza in Man of La Mancha, and the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd. Be sure to listen to Maria’s jazz-flavored CD, “Moonglow,” and single, “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan. Maria holds a BA in English and Psychology, and MS in Administration, as well as graduate credit in Vocal Pedagogy. She has studied most recently with Toni Marie Palmertree and Jeannette LoVetri.  Click on the link below to see: Maria's Performance Resume'.
